Summer holiday

This is where we are going to spend part of our summer holiday. Minus the snow -I hope!

KoolAid

Not much blogging. I have been busy with preparing for this and with making squares for the baby blanket. So far I have made around 22 squares.

baby blanket version 1 million

I am not going to frog it again!!! But I don't think I'll have to. I like the pattern which is adopted from this blanket but made into 12 x 12 cm squares. I'll crochet the squares together using the dark yarn and with single crochet giving a raised stitching. The amout of yarn will define the size and how I mix the various colours.

That was a quickie

I will definately use this pattern again. And next time I'll remember to use smaller needles for the edging. The tie strings are I-cords.

Not much progress on the lace sweater. The blanket and hat has kept me busy.

Baby hat

Work in progress no.1 : a babyhat. Pattern here , but in norwegian. If someone happens to come by and would like it in english I might get around to translating it.

And the inauguration of my SP short sock needles. They are perfect -and who knows, maybe one day I will knit socks too ;-)

Tomorrow I'll post pictures of WIP 2: baby blanket version one million and WIP 3: Lace sweater. Then you (who ever you are and if anyone at all) have something to look forward to!

In between the showers

Nothing but rain yesterday. The garden loves it and I had an excuse to stay inside and knit. In between 2 showers I hurried out to take a few pictures as proof.

Mathematical knitting

This homepage deserves more than a comment in comments. They are all very impressive!

The first row represents the numbers 1 to 10, the second 11 to 20, and so on. The numbers from 1 to 10 each have a colour. This is at the top of the column. 1 is blue, 2 is yellow, etc. If these numbers divide into the number of a square the colour is shown in the square.

Squares and parallelograms create the illusion of cubes, using three shades.

How many different squares can be made by using two yarns at a time from a choice of ten?A practical use for triangular numbers.

Blanket bummer

Optimism is great -I guess. But I think I have overdone it this time. Okey, crochet is more yarn consuming than knitting, but I am not quite sure how I ever maneged to think 100 g would be enough for a baby blanket!!! I have used halft of it and the blanket is...wow... 18 cm!!
So I have spend the day trying to figure out how to rescue the blanket. I could order more yarn I guess, but that would be too easy. Besides, I have lots of left overs from Mermaid but even if including that the blanket is going to be tiny. I will probably have to frog the whole thing. Thougth about making granny squares instead, but that really isn't very good for a baby blanket is it?
I guess the best thing would be to knit the blanket....but I WANT to crochet.
Maybe this or this or this. But they are so simple!!
I will probably end up with no blanket at all!!!
Anyone who has a pattern for a baby hat?

Fetus

Well!!!! At least I tried. Think this was the end of knitting weird things and this abnormal armless embryon will never make it into the real world!

Fetus purse

Once again my Secret Pal has sent me the most fantastic link! A fetus bag!!! Pattern is here. As I work with obstetrisc it is definately a must -even more than the uterus.
It is very realistic -and slightly disgusting. I'll go and bye some yarn right away!!! (maybe I better have a look in my stash first)

Check up on your gauge!!

I tried to be a little more relaxed when knitting the second sleeve. My gauge turned out a little relaxed too. Sigh! The second sleeve is app 3½ cm longer than the first sleeve.
I decided to make the I-cord at the wrists and then try to block the hell out of it (excuse my language).

So far they look just about equal in size. Actually the small one (at the bottom) looks bigger than the big one! I hope it works so I don't have to make a third sleeve!!!

Greenhouse

I cleaned the greenhouse today which is something I hate, mainly due to the content of the irrigation system -6 months old water. I usually find a lot of slugs in there -absolutely disgusting, I detest them. This year there was no slugs, but a dead mouse. Sickening!! I actually did take a picture to prove it, but figured I would look like a complete maniac if I posted a picture of a drowned, halfway dissolved mouse! And the picture of the elephant size spider I will keep to myself aswell......

Before & after

That was .... different. Now back to something safe....flowers...again....they....keep....blooming....
